Protecting The Grid
Electric grids and utilities are an often overlooked factor when considering security. While measures to protect these assets may fall into the category of physical security, they have a direct impact on technology as well. Constant power and back up energy needs to be provided to systems to ensure continuity of operations. Computers need to be kept at a certain temperature to continue to function properly. System redundancy is essential for updates, repairs and transitional periods. Utilities are too often considered supporting assets, and not given the necessary attention. Protecting these assets is as important as protecting the assets they support. This is currently being discussed at a National level. Talks are currently taken with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, aimed at improving our nation’s electrical grids. Whether you are a federal government, a local government, a small business or a large one, securing your power is essential. http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/1973118
