New Priorities, New Opportunities: Streamlining Efficiency in Federal Training
Every four years brings a unique challenge to Government contracting firms across the spectrum. That is determining the priorities of the incoming administration. And it’s not just a challenge when the person behind the Resolute Desk changes. Priorities often shift for a president coming into their second term. It’s no secret that there will be a major shift in priorities coming this January. Those of us in the Government contracting business, if we want to be successful, must recognize that reality.
STREAMLINING TRAINING SOLUTIONS
One of the major priorities we are preparing for is the plan to bring more efficiency in Government. Windwalker, a training development company for over 3 decades, has long recognized that for any organization – government or private industry – organizational efficiency starts with good training. A well-trained workforce is efficient, productive, and profitable.
Windwalker sees an opportunity in this area not only to offer streamlined training solutions, but also using existing materials and subject matter expertise to create training programs that utilize multiple training delivery methods to bring that very efficiency to Federal Government training that can create a streamlined, efficient government workforce.
There are numerous reasons for converting existing training into eLearning:
→ Greater reach to a large, geographically dispersed workforce. This was a main reason for Government agencies and large national or international corporations.
→ Savings on travel and accommodations. This is related closely to the reason above and even with the cost of creating online training, oftentimes doing so provides cost savings and efficiency over the long term.
→ Standardize training throughout an organization. Organizations want to deliver training that is set and standardized across their whole organization and not rely on the skill or approach of individual training sessions in different regions or locations.
→ Condensing the time their workforce spent in training. Organizations striving for efficiency recognize that the training they currently use is too long and they want to streamline it to an online option.
→ Giving the learner control over the training; pace, learning styles, etc. Organizations recognize that their workforce learned in different ways, and that it could be more effective to let the learner direct their own learning. Online learning provided learners the autonomy to choose pace and time of learning.
→ Providing a more flexible timing for training. Whether it is letting the employee choose when they take the training or deciding on how much of it they complete in one sitting, online learning allows them to access the training at a time and pace that may be more effective for them.
→ Creating cost effective refresher training or just-in-time options for employees who may have missed the in-person class (as an option). Online versions of training courses are a great way to offer refresher training for key principles or even to provide training for employees who miss scheduled training.
It’s important to note all of these reasons start with an organization’s existing training content. Windwalker has spent over 25 years doing just this – converting clients’ existing training into eLearning or distance learning tools. We believe this need to repurpose training will be a priority in the Federal sector in the coming years.
